Perhaps you will be interested in posting two documents on Development Gateway titled: "Knowledge for Sustainable Development in Africa: Toward New Policy Initiatives" (11 pages) and 'Knowledge Policies for Sustainable Development in Africa: a Strategic Framework for Good Governance (54 pages). The documents claimed that African economies have been involuntarily drawn into a knowledge race in which they may turn out to be losers in the absence of adequate knowledge, culture and governance strategies. Not enough effort is being made to emphasize the centrality of knowledge for sustainable development and to face the challenge of creating innovative and competitive knowledge societies in Africa. The documents call for a profound reform of knowledge and propose new policy directions and instruments.
The Internet Links to the documents are provided below. Can they be useful to Meta Knowledge Management? Can they be shared on your website?

Learn how to define and structure the most appropriate taxonomy for your organisation’s needs and how to communicate the taxonomy in your organisation
Information is constantly increasing, but there is a lack of knowledge on how to categorise and classify it. Your organization is being swamped with information and your staff productivity time is being wasted trying to find this information.
If you want your business to be more efficient, you need to learn how to structure, categorise and classify information by using Taxonomies. This way you can maximize your productivity time and keep your staff stress free.

This document forms booklet five of the European Guide to Good Practice in Knowledge Management (KM),
which is published as a CEN Workshop agreement.
This booklet covers the core KM terminology that European private and public sector executives, particularly
in small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) will need to know in order to have a proper understanding of
KM. |

European Guide to good Practice in Knowledge Management - Part 4: Guidelines for Measuring KM

One of the key challenges of developing metrics for KM concerns "cause and effect." We can measure many
activities, but what does the measurement represent? Does the activity we measure have an undisputed
connection to other established business metrics? And how credible and actionable will any resulting
numbers be?
There are both internal and external developments that force organizations to think about the way they are
managing their knowledge as a strategic asset on behalf of all their key stakeholders (see also booklet 1 –
KM Framework) |

European Guide to good Practice in Knowledge Management - Part 3: SME Implementation

Throughout Europe, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and SME communities are refocusing their
activities to collaborate and compete through knowledge. Hence their awareness grows that efficient
management of knowledge is essential for remaining competitive.
But KM is not something that may be bought off the shelf, and it is generally agreed that there is not just one
single way to implement KM in SMEs.
This booklet 3 in the European Guide to Good Practice in KM presents a unifying guide with good practice
examples for KM implementation in SMEs across Europe and thus assists SMEs and SME communities in
identifying their readiness for KM, identifying and motivating key players, implementing KM successfully within
and across their organizational boundaries and networks, and measuring the results of their efforts. |

European Guide to good Practice in Knowledge Management - Part 2: Organizational Culture

Culture is perhaps the most important factor in successfully managing knowledge. It is a key influence on
behaviours. This booklet looks at what culture is, how it develops and how you can work with it to ensure your
KM programme is successful. It attempts to give some answers to:
1) How to get the support and active involvement of the members of the organization (issues related to
human resources: motivation, competencies, etc).
2) How to organize for the implementation of KM (issues related to the formal and informal structure of
the organization).
3) How to get the appropriate climate for KM implementation (issues related to specific activities and tools
to be used). |
